Episode #42: Hacking Capitalism For The Sake of Circus with Hadassah Damien
The Artist Athlete Podcast - A podcast by Shannon McKenna

In the US, it can be argued that we have an economic system that benefits from individuals staying ignorant and stressed out about money. But what if that could change? What if, instead of the old troupe of artists being bad with money, artists were extraordinarily good with our money- as creative and smart about it as we are about utilizing other resources in our community. Enter Hadassah Damien, this week’s guest. Hadassah is actually not a circus artist (though her partner used to be) but, she toured the US producing queer femme performance art before she launched the website ridefreefearlessmoney.com to help people take control of their finances. If you’re about to turn this episode off and wait until next week when I interview a super awesome Cirque du Soliel star or a famous Instagram aerial instructor, I want you to take a moment and listen to this interview. Even if you’re not an artist, but someone who just enjoys watching circus, your role is as important in this discussion (Hadassah would say you have one of the most important roles in this discussion) so give it a moment and listen up! Find Hadassah online: https://www.ridefreefearlessmoney.com Please won’t you be a Patreon?: http://www.patreon.com/theartistathlete This podcast is dedicated to CIRCUS. Aerialist, Shannon McKenna interviews guests from acrobats in Cirque du Soleil to circus therapists and everyone in between. Learn the backstage lives of those who flip, twist, sparkle, and shine under the big top. Shannon McKenna is an internationally recognized circus performer and coach. For the past decade, she has been a freelance artist: giving workshops and classes across 7 countries and working on and back stage for both traditional and contemporary circus shows in the US, Portugal, Germany, and Australia. She holds a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a concentration on post-modern physical theater (how’s that for a mouthful?). She founded The Artist Athlete in 2018 as a means to produce educational materials for aerial artists and a podcast in which she interviews experts in the circus industry about their careers. If you’re reading this, you’re probably listening to it. Thank you! She currently lives in Atlanta, GA USA, but gravitates towards whichever circus community is the warmest.
